Jake Creates Convention Robot

This project was inspired by my good friend, Soymilk, who isn't always able to attend conventions in person. I wanted to create a way to share the experience with her, even if she can't be there physically.My solution was the robot you see before you: a homemade telepresence robot. It's basically a Facetime call on wheels, but a lot taller and harder to get through TSA.Offkai 2025 was the first time I've ever made a robot like this, and the experience was truly life changing. Seeing how excited people were to meet Soy, from friends to fans, and seeing how happy she was to meet them in return, made me realize the impact this little robot had. What began as a way to help my friend experience a convention, turned into a way of connecting people, despite distance or limitations, and that's something I want to continue doing.
